November Pet of the Month: Heart

November Pet of the Month: Heart

We had just said goodbye to our greyhound, Pike (who Ben walked for almost 8 years), and went to donate his leftover medication at the Emerald Kennels, which is where his adoption group, Greyhounds Only, boards hounds newly arrived from tracks in Florida and other parts of the country.

We had no plans to get another dog so soon, but went in back to take a look at all of greyhounds to cheer ourselves up. There were almost 40 dogs. In one of the crates, there was an impish little face desperately trying to get our attention – pawing at the crate, thumping her tail, and tracking us as we walked across the room. Her racing name was All Heart, and that seemed like a sign.

June Pet of the Month: Floyd

June Pet of the Month: Floyd

Floyd is best described as a Jack Russel Terrier trapped in a Rottie body – energetic is an understatement! On a typical day you can find Floyd walking all over the city in various locations clocking in about 7 – 8 miles a day traveling to and from ANY place that has treats.  Floyd is one of the smartest dogs I have known (am I biased, yes).  He understands sentences, will get his leash on his own, and can open a door with his mouth.  Floyd spends much of his summer up in Leelanau county, MI doing various activities – paddle boarding, swimming (aka wave eating), hiking and digging holes in the sand looking for tennis balls.
